HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
During the process of producing the teaser trailer, certain programmes were used to help for example Final Cut Pro, this is a programme that allowed us to capture and log our camera shots and edit our work to get it how we wanted it, with the effects available and cutting tools along with other aspects such as lighting control. The sound was made through garage band were we could record our voices and manipulate them by controling the sound tempo and pace, our background sounds came from http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/horror.html by using this we could pick and choose what soundtrack to have in the background that would really go with our film. We then used youtube to post the trailer onto the internet so that people had easy access to view it and therefore could give us their feedback on what they thought of it. Photoshop was used to create the magazine and horror poster products it was very helpful because it enabled me to make every detail exact and i could also add detail to the images and really make them look graphically brilliant however in some areas it was complex. For evaluation i used blogger which allowed me to show my work and write a detailed analysis on what i done, this is a simple easy and free way to do my work. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
I gained some audience feedback through making people watch the teaser trailer on youtube and getting them to tell me what what they like about the teaser and what they didn't like, by this i collected data that helped me to gain an insight on what aspects people look for in a film.
The positives that were said are:
The negatives that were said are:
The audience feedback has helped me to distinguish what the effective aspects of the trailer was and what parts weren't so good so that i can improve it and use their views as a guidline by choosing the most common criticisms that were repeated so i definetely no they weren't good and i will do the same for the positive aspects and may improve them. I have learnt that horror trailers have to be very carefully tuned so that the soundtrack matches the film especially when the distressing images are on screen, the soundtrack has to add to the impact by tempo or pitch. No criticisms on the story line was mentioned when i said to them what it was at the end which suggests the horror story is good but i do have to make it clearer.
The positives that were said are:
- The music was upbeat
- The lighting contrast was good between when everything was good and when everything went bad
- The images of the gorey bloody hands were good
- The begining is effective because it makes you bond with the character
- The use of camera angles were really effective, like the canted angle
- Close up of the eye
- The fuzzy image at the end
- The sound of the boy at the end was good and jumpy
The negatives that were said are:
- The doctor shot wasn't needed because it took the mystery factor away, also the light and the bed was enough to set the setting.
- Get rid of the heart monitor
- The booms in the soundtrack didn't match the intertitles
- Not too sure what the story line was
- Not sure what the children were or why they are in there
- Too many hand shots
- Bit untidy could be linked better
The audience feedback has helped me to distinguish what the effective aspects of the trailer was and what parts weren't so good so that i can improve it and use their views as a guidline by choosing the most common criticisms that were repeated so i definetely no they weren't good and i will do the same for the positive aspects and may improve them. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

To launch our film 'Cardiac attack' it was important for us to make it known to the public amoungst all things. 'UK film distributers alone spend 300 million a year on bringing new releases to market. The main aim in marketing is to create visibility, raise awareness and engage interrest and illiminating competition' (FDA Website) at the moment the internet and other big film releases are the main threat. To accomplish this i made my magazine have a certain appeal by using bright eye catching colours but not loads maximum of 3, yellow, red and white, these went well with each other. To publicise my material i used prereleases before the final piece i.e the film. This will help to establish whether the audience is going to like the film by their responses and feedback, in which we find very helpful as it dictated what edits and improvements we make, it also generates more money for our film, as the more people who know about the film 'Cardiac Attack' and have been grasped by the media products, then more money is likely to be spent by the distributers on tie-in merchandise as people are going to want to buy them.
'Griffith and Chaplin were the first to create a pattern in lauching films, they used innovation into their films by using amazing technical effects. One of their great films was The birth of the Nations in 1915. They took into account the importance of angled shots, panning and tracking etc. This rubbed off onto other film makers who changed their techniques to attract the audience. This lead to the key selling point no longer being the variety of the bill but the excitement of the main features within the film'.(FDA Website)
My products distribution plan. The team met up with other people from the college and talked about when and how to release the product. We decided to base our plan on the estimated profit the product will make and what audience it is aimed at. This alone is a hard decision as most films don't make a profit through the film release alone. So we made a judgement on the audience's age, gender, lifestyles and social networks etc to gain an insight on who is likely to watch the film. This would hopefully help the film to get recognised by the public and 'cross over'. The Cardiac Attack teaser trailer was based on a young, unisex audience who enjoy out of the ordinary stories for example emo or indie subcultures. The teaser will be released around 7 o clock were most people are at home had tea and may be watching tele. The certificate of the film is a 15 as it isn't violent but still has gore in it. We carefully structured the media products to be released gradually for example the posters would go out first so the audience get a glimpse of the film and then the teaser trailer would be released two weeks later. This creates a coherent element of advertising for my film because it builds and builds the suspense of the film release by using sight and sound together.
I used mainly 'Above the line' promotions such as magazines and posters as they are quick, simple and cheap, other above the line media involves the television, radio, newspaper etc these are very important in gaining the awareness from the audience as it is very direct and can really show the message the distributer wants to put across, however 'below the line' promotions such as public relations, exhibitions, sponsorship etc are becoming just as important as this creates word of mouth and also it is possible to gain a realistic view on what the audience thinks being face to face. In my media text i am relying souly on above the line promotions as the film may not be as successfull if it was promoted in below the line promotions because the the director and characters aren't as well known known.Over all the most important promotion stratedgie used in selling a film is the teaser trailer because it gives the audience a real, live, minitature taste of what the film is going to be like. This is a good stratedgie to motivate the audience's awareness. This is done by showing the most enticing and best bits of the movie. The key aspects in which the distributers have to think about is the slot in which this teaser trailer will be shown depending on it's audience, for example during the day could be good for stay at home parents with children evening times is good for 15 plus movies which would be ideal for a horror. However what distibution companies have to bear in mind is that audience preferes and interprets different adverts in different ways which means to be safe other advertising of the film must be made along with the teaser trailer. For example film magazines, some people may prefere to read about a film and it's reviews or the processes of how it was filmed before going to see the film. If the front cover of a magazine is of a new film that is out it gives the impression that it's a big thing to watch because the front cover is seen as the main page, it can also give a little information to the reader depending whats written for example 'The best yet'. Not only this if the advert is in a film magazine then it is more likely that someone who likes watching movies and going to the cinema is going to read it which is the perfect audience to attract. Distribution companies don't make magazine covers but they can write a list of prefered features they would like included or what magazine they want an advert in. A down side to these advertisments is that a lot of people go to the toilet or get up and do something during breaks on the television which is when the trailer is shown which means a lot viewing is lost, magazines change weekly, get damaged and are not a stable source to bring in potential customers. This is where posters help the process, they are able to change size which means they can be put in books newspapers, billboards, bus sides anywhere and they can stay there for as long as the distributer pays for them to be there. With a poster however it is important to have a good design that catches peoples eyes. The writting should be in proportion with the page size as well as clear to read, the write image must be used that really shows the films potential it's usually of the main character. All these advertising techniques help but the most powerful scheme to be heard is through word of mouth, this is why audience feedback is vital along with reviews from newspapers and radio braodcasts.
In my distribution media products these rules have been applied, within the teaser trailer the main images that are eye catching and gripping are used that have been edited together so that the plot of the story is clear. The soundtrack has been carefully chosen to match the atmosphere of the film, ours is fast paced and jumpy. In the magazine cover i have chosen a picture of the main character so people can relate the film to the image, i've put the font of the film name 'Cardiac Attack' in large font so it's easy to see. The magazine is also in a well known magazine for film fans. The poster is black so that the content stands out also the colour black connotes evil and bad in which horror involves, the title is centred and graphically drawn to look gorey. The image is mysterious and shows in a slight way that the film is about seeing things, the eyes are both evil and victimised and makes the audience want to know what it's all about because it doesn't show a conventional horror image in the poster. All these things have helped my media texts make a coherent publicity awareness so we can launch a successful film.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
A fuzzy image is very un nerving which is exactly what a horror should set out to do. By not being able to clearly see an image can create a mysterious and uncomfortable atmosphere also because the fuzziness is something we can all relate to from cam recorders or the television there is aspects of realtiy linked to this image which is also very unnerving.
A canted shot of two figures also similar in the still shot of the teaser trailer we created. the key conventions of a horror in this still is the low key lighting, the canted angle which connotes uncertainty and stability, the dark shadows can also give a sense of mystery to the shot as there is no way of knowing who they are what they are doing until later on.
The mis en scene in this still is extremely effective by using blood and pale make up there is also bynary oppositions used with the girl wearing a white dress representing innocents but is then contrasted with the evil make up and facial expression. The low key motivated lighting creates suspense and gives a limited view point to the audience so we can't quiet see what it is.
The motivated lighting of a room can give the setting a creepy effect but can give tell tale signs to where the scene is set in this still by the light design they look like they could be in a ware house or hospital surgery room, these are all places that are not quiet homely or have a weariness factor to them
The intertitles are set out to give information about the plot tell a fact or to make people feel uneasy, by using factual sentences the ffect is greater because the audience can relate it to real life. The white shows up from the black making the writing clear to see.
By getting a clear view of the main characters face at the begining of the teaser trailer it allows the audience to form a relationship with them which means a stronger feeling is felt when something happens to them.I'ts always good to have someone with an angelic face as it portrays innocence and a likablility facter.
Gore is a good prop to have in a teaser trailer but there shouldn't be too much of it as it can desensitise the audience or can give too much away about the film there needs to be just enough to get the shock from an image, also blood contributes majorly in horror films simply because blood is horrible itself and connotes injury or death.
Having a little boy who is evil has binary oppositions as children are supposed to be angelic and nieve but this is contrasted when the boy is evil and can be very unnerving. However boys are less affected than girls because they are symbols of disruption and caos but to put it to this extreme can put wonder in parents heads.
A fuzzy tele can give an in image a paranormal affect and because this is not a unknown thing to happen in every day life it can put worry in peoples minds that it may be caused by something else.
Here are 9 key frames from the teaser trailer I created.
There is a similar image of gore however this one is restricted as you can't see who it is, where it is or even what it is, this can either create the want to know facter or the not knowing facter which is scarey. By using blood it shows the genre of the story.
The innocent boy effect has been used with blue lighting to create a gohstly effect and a cold atmosphere, the expression instigates help and the glass connotes the barrier between reality and spirituality. I particularly like the lighting use i the image as it exaggerates the expression of his face rather than the surroundings. Theres something quiet desturbing about seeing a child in distress.
- The intertitles are shown in our teaser trailer to help the audience understand the story, as it is complicated without them, however this is done using facts that people can relate to. Having short sentences makes it easier to read and creates a better reaction my favourite line is 'unclassified 1'. This is really out of the ordinary and makes you want to know what the unclassified insident is.
The bright angelic close up of the main characters face exaggerates normality at that point before disaster strikes. this is also enhanced by the coming round still of the lights going from
The long shot of the figure on a roof looking down on the audience is very disturbing as it is threatning and powerful, the canted angle makes the image distort. the light highlights the outline of the figure which makes it bold and much more effective
The key conventions of a teaser trailer in general are the time limit is usually between 1 and 1.5 minutes, fast paced with a upbeat soundtrack with added booms during scarey parts of the film. Many close ups of reactions but not giving away too much of what is happening to them. Most are left on a cliff hanger to make people want to go and watch the film. They may include a glipse of a particular main scene in the film along with gore, violence or mystery depending on what the context is, the main idea of a teaser trailer is to grab the audiences attention right from the start until finish and to make them leave unsatisfied and wanting more. The narrative elements that were released include, the slasher where the woman sees what the murderer has already done however it is more psychotic by having a twist in it that the heart is a murderers heart and using binary oppositions such as innocence and evil. We done this after reading Levi Strouce's structural narative analysis, where by he wasn't concerned with linear development but more with the underlying mythic structures as it works particularly well in horror. The main features in my teaser trailer that are mind grabbing is the extreme close ups of the main characters face as it doesn't give away where she is or whats happening to her and really draws the audience in. The ending of the teaser is also an element of 'tease' as it leaves the audience all of a sudden feeling a rush or a sudden scare and because of that feeling they have it makes them think 'it must be really scary if i feel scared just by watching that' other tease methods that are used are the suspense in the soundtrack, the quick half second shots of horror and the camera work used such as canted angles and low angle shots putting the audience at unease and full of mixed emotions.

IDEA OF A HORROR MOVIE
A couple move into their new house, the location is full of life with lots of friendly people, the sun is shining, their house is beautiful, they also have a golden retriever and a 5 year old boy. Every thing is perfect........
But what happens when the ones you love start to disappear, first the little boy vanishes, desperatley trying to look for him the village is very reluctant to speak out or acknowledge their problem. At night they hear his voice and get up in the middle of the night, messages are left in their house written on mirrors and scratched in doors, 'times running out' confused and alone with no one to help them, they set out down a path they will never forget.
The dog
The neighbour
Then you!!!

QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS

We used open and closed questions within our questionnaire to gather both qualitative and quantitative data.
Question 2 –What features in horror films are you interested in? Please explain.
Most popular requests
• Suspense,
• Tension,
• Psychological,
• Gore,
• Sex appeal,
• Familiar surroundings,
• Twists,
• Jumpy bits
• Blood.
Through this question we found that these aspects were the most popular suggestions in which people would like to see in a horror movie. The features people were interested in the least the were special effects and the gradual building of music. This has helped us gain knowledge into what our target audience wants to see so that they enjoy the movie which potentially will make our product a success.
3) What do you look for in a horror trailer? Please explain
Here is a summary of the response we received from this question:
• Damsel in dresses
• Suspense, fast paced, clues to narrative
• good plot
• Not so much revealed, hint at the plot
• Twisted ideas – issues that concern my demographic, things I can relate too e.g. Eden lake, working class ‘chavs’
• Mysterious killer
• Jumpy bits
• Makes me want to know more
• Building music- voice over
The results we received were largely what we expected. A few people said they were interested at issues/topics which related to their demographic. To us, this seems like good idea as the audience can then sympathise with the characters. As we plan to target a young audience, incorporating an issues witch relate young teenagers will be a good idea.
Question 5 – When on a date, do you look for anything particular in a horror? Please explain.
Most popular requests
• A scary moment
• Jumpy scenes
• Something that scares the girl
Through research we found that the most frequent audience that go to the cinema are teenage groups of girls, teenage group of boys between 16 and 25 and couples aged between 20 and 30. We took this into account and asked this question on how we can make our movie attract this audience. These were the most common answers in our results which show us that our movie has to be scary or ‘jumpy’ in order to appeal to a coupled audience.
Question 8 –Please note down any comments that you think might help us?
Most popular requests
• Should involve teenagers
• built tension
• handheld shots
This has influenced us to use teenagers in our teaser trailer. This is convenient for us and it will meets the needs of our target audience.

HORROR MOOD BOARD
The images on the moodboard show the particular aspects in which i believe are really important to have in a horror movie. First of all i like the use of enclosed spaces to create an isolation or crosstraphobic atmosphere that creates unease on the audience. The dark low key lighting creates an evil mood and suspense because you can't see with full vision which adds to the restrictive factor also motivated lighting is effective as it can create shadows and light up features or propps that you really want the audience to see. Another feature i like is the distorted long tunnel like imagery that look like they never end also it adds to the restrictive aspect again because there is only forward or back as a direction. Another scary feature is the characters themselves the most effective characters are young innocent like children that ether become victims or become a bad character which is always unsettling and the second type of charcter the female protagonist who survives after becoming face to face with the villian.STORYBOARDS
We used storyboards because they are cheap, simple to use and extremely helpful. We carefully planned the story of our film before producing it because by doing this it makes the procedure of making a film a lot easier. You can follow what you have created and maybe add or take a few things along the way. This also allows you to gain feedback before the film is made which can be expensive and time consuming if you get feedback afterwards. It's also good to focus on every last detail of the shots taken. By doing this we could decide what characters are in the frame, what camera angles should be used, what is being said, what is the time and how long is each scene.

Explore how the horror genre represents women

In the past women in horror films were resembled as sex symbols, this was seen through making the audience view the character through ‘the male gaze’ in which Laura Mulvey suggests. This can be shown in the beginning of the postman always rings twice’, this is a black and white film made in the late 1940’s which really highlights the representations of women and the sexist culture of the man i.e having the last say like when the woman had to go to the man to retrieve her hair roller. There are many ideologies of a woman in a horror genre that many theorists have uncovered Jeremy Tunstall and Carole Clover being some of them.
One theory of the representation of women is the male gaze which potentially places the woman character in an objective position by using long shots and tilt upward frameworks, this doesn’t allow the viewers to identify or form a relation with the woman which makes her be seen as an object, where as the men are put in more subjective positions by capturing him with close ups and point of view shots this results in him having the upper hand because the audience is able to bond with him, making him the protagonist in the narrative structure and the woman to be victimised and inferior. Although more modern day horrors have these aspects of gender, they tend to be less obvious as they are put into protagonist roles and seen as a strong individual but the representation used by the mis‘en’ scene shows the sex presentation of the women for example Milla Jovovich in resident evil, she has a boyish personality, she also saves the day, however she still is put in suggestive clothing for example short tight shorts, strap tops and high boots. Another convention of wom
an within horror genres is the obsession with women’s body parts or exposure as it can represent vulnerability as well as sexiness which meet the criteria for a woman in a horror movie. Most women will be first seen from their feet up to their face which suggests that the woman’s body is more important than herself which puts her in a position of no status or power but an object that feeds the pleasure of men, this can also be shown through the amount of men compared to women there are on screen as well as the fact that men have more leeway in the age department, women that are old tend to be associated with being ‘’past it’’ however there are men on television that are in their 70’s for example Bruce Forsyth, but he is represented as wise rather than old.
It seems that women put in the protagonist position aren’t seen as part of the popular culture or in with the crowd such as meeting the stereotypes of a young girl teenager who maybe sexually active, up to no good and rebellious, instead she completes her work on time, doesn’t have a boyfriend and dresses prim and proper this could be to do with the government promoting the ideal female teenager by suggesting that ‘’bad teens’’ get killed or something bad happens and ‘’good teens’’ survive. This type of girl also tends to have a boy like name such as ‘Laurie’ out of Halloween, which is kind of an excuse for her to act erratically or brave. The ‘final woman’ is also put into the subject position but as she is subconsciously linked to male characteristics it is more accepted.
Jeremy Tunstall looked at a wide range of research on gender representation, he found that the overall result showed that women in the media were emphasised in four different areas being:- Domestic, Sexual, Consumer and Marital. This meant that generally women are seen as busy housewives, contented mothers, eager consumers and sex objects. Men are rarely shown in the nude and clarified by their marital status.
Carole Clover adds onto this by researching the extent to which horror reinforces these
classic representations. In her book she argues that the identification/objectification in horror texts is far more significant than the identification/objectification in many other genres. Clover suggests that instead of a sadistic objectification of women that takes place in many mainstream texts, many now provide the woman with a ‘masochistic identification’ which would lead back to ‘Laurie out of Halloween’.
More recent research that has been conducted was in 1992 which showed that males were more likely to be shown in an occupation than women, Males were also shown to be away from the home and out of the doors as well as being seen more as authoritative and females as consumers although this is far less now than it was in the past.
Horror genres have changed over time especially in the area of women’s representation, however evidence still suggests that sex, emotion, weakness and unreliability is associated with women and males are resembles as strong, rational and reliable. This distinguishes the characters gender within most horror films. Overtime these representations will change.
'The postman always rings twice' this movie shows the 'male gaze' from 4.00 onwards, it particularly highlights the point that women are connected with body parts rather than as a person. THE MARKETING PLAN
The marketing plan is based on getting the film noticed, many aspects are involved in order to promote the film however the main important aspects to think about are who, what, where, when and how.
1.Who- 18+ year olds
2.What- organise an event for a lot of people to get involved in
3.Where- premiere in an big city
4.When- weekend before the release
5.How- Book a venue invite the main characters to come along to attract fans, contact the papers for publicity.
The stratedgies to motivate the audience awareness is also important, luckily the film is already attractive to it's target audience because the characters within the film are of the same age which helps the audience relate to the film. However this is not enough to make them really want to go all the way and watch the film, so other methods in which i will use are interviews on television shows or radio, making the main character go on a chat show, put an article in the newpaper aimed at the same target audience so they will read it, make a website for the film so people can read up on it or come across it whilst surfing the net, make merchandise to retails to sell or fast food joints to sell with a meal etc. The main marketing strategie that is most effective is posters having a visual effect is important for attracting the audience becuase they may subconsciously take the poster into account and so remember the film without knowing how, also trailers are just as important to grab the audience as it involves cliff hangers and doesn't quiet fullfill the audiences needs which causes them to want to know more and therefore they end up watching the film. The distributions prediction on how successfull the film will be determines how much money is spent on the film marketing.
MY DISTRIBUTION PLAN
Firstly i will think about when and how i will be releasing my film. I believe it should be released during autum to winter time when it's darker outside which will add to it's horror, it should be released near to halloween but earlier to eliminate competition that release films close to halloween. The audience in which the film will be aimed at is 18 as it will be an extreme horror movie, they will buy tickets because the trailer and posters will attract them also it is full of gore and horror that is not conventional or expected which makes the film different to other films. Considering the amount in which the film will profit at is important and i will predict the amount and take 30% of it to make the advertising for the film, this is a good way to budget the movie and not spend to much or loose too much either. the trailer that is released will be attractive to the audience because the target audience will be thoroughly examined their age, interrests, aiming it at the popular culture for a bigger audience, making sure that both boys and girls will enjoy the story line that is shown in the trailer. If i am not sure about the standard of the film i will stagger release it so that i can make a rough summary on how successful it could be then if it goes well release it into the big i max cinemas and so on.ROLE OF THE DISTRIBUTER
The distributer develops a release stratedgy which includes the date of releasing the product, different advertising techniques, grabbing the audiences attention. They also take the responsibility to deliver the finished film to other areas such as to the exhibitors and negotiates to discuss whether to have it released in cinemas.

TEASER TRAILERS
This film is a horror but has a completely different genre to other traditional horrors as this puts horror into the comedy catagory og genre. It is done through using light hearted diegetic sounds that adds a few jokes, by making scenes less serious, although the conventions are there such as the low key lighting, they are used differently and almost takes the mickey out of other horror movies.

I chose this trailer because it is in a specific location with little setting and story line which i though is interresting to see how it is constructed to not give away too much about the film and making sure people are still grasped with suspense. The key conventions used are once again low key lighting which is a trend in many horrors.
In my opinion this is the best teaser trailer i have chosen because the key conventions that have been used are used well. First of all using black and white already puts the audience on edge because it is out to the ordinary and can subconsciously create that fear of the dark. The non diegetic sounds in the background can not be distinguished as a particular thing which adds to the build up of fear. The suspense is also built up through the fast pace of each clip which is a clever way in not giving away too much. Once again as a teaser there is no character references as it is not essential if the characters are not that well known.
teaser trailer
This Teaser is longer than the average teaser trailer, but it does contain most of the key conventions of a horror movie. At first the genre is distinguished as being an action as there ia a lot of low key blue/grey lighting, fast beat music and cars chasing a man. This misleads the audience which can make them unprepared for the rest of the content. It then transforms into a horror teaser through the change of music as it becomes slower and more misticle and child like, which gives a haunted impression. The setting becomes a isolated and distorted place, it's hard to make out where they are located and the audience is introduced to the 'monster' character. Which is a must in a horror. Like a trailer there is a date of the film release '4/30/2010' the producers name'Micheal Bay' and intertitles that break up sentences so the audience feel obliged to keep watching. However character names are not used mainly because no famous characters are present within the film. Interrestingly the name of the film doesn't appear until the end of the teaser, this will help keep the suspense up through out the clip. The main features of this being a teaser rather than a trailer is the length, the action shots and close up reaction shots and the random shots of the characters in unusual situations but doesn't ell you what is going on. All these build up suspense, keep the audience wanting to know more and doesn't give the movie away before the trailer comes out. I think this teaser shows these concepts of a horror very well.
HORROR TRAILER ''THE RING''
This trailer, i believe shows horror conventions because of the classic very low key lighting which creates an unsteady atmosphere, the 'monster' being an innocent girl, the deep theoretical music that builds suspense. The diagetic whispering sound of the girl in the scene creates a ghostly impression. Unfortunetley i don't believe this trailer does the promotion of the film justice, as it doesn't highlight the scariness or why the video is 'a bad thing' very well. However it uses the reaction shots of the characters well which shows the content of the film includes terror without showing what it is they saw. After watching the film i found that it was far more scary than what the trailer suggests.

Does Propps narrative theory exist in 'The Shining'
Most of the 'Preparation' part of Vladimir Propp's narrative theory links into the narrative structure of the film 'The shining' as the family move away from their home town, a rule of not going into room 237 is imposed on the hero which is eventually broken. However in the other sections such as the complications, Transference, struggle, return and recognition tend to become mixed up such as the seeker plans action against the villian is said to come first in the complications part and the hero recieves a magical agent happens next but ends up being the wrong way round because a magical agent is given right at the begining of the film by Hallorann who is head chief. Also there is no evidence of return and recognition as the it ends on the hero is defeated which for some reason is in the struggle section. So in my opinion Propps theory is evident in some parts of the film but is not necassarily apparant through out.

'The return of the repressed'
'The return of the repressed' is a theory thought by Freud a phychologist whereby repressed elements, preserved in the unconscious mind reappear, it usually happens in order to cope or deal with certain thoughts and feelings. This tends to happen whilst watching horror movies as it helps you to cope with the content in which is being exposed.

Horror trailer
Iv'e chosen this trailer because it's full of suspense and really emphasises the dark theme of the movie, in my opinion this is one of the scariest movies ever made. With its low key lighting, high pitch sounds and intense scenes. Also it moves away from the conventional slasher movies and steps into the spiritual thriller side of genres of the unknown which leaves you thinking 'what if, however the trailer i believe doesn't show the full potential of the film as it is based on the fact that it's a video tape (which isn't very scary) and not the scary content within it, this is only shown eventually during the ending.
